Skills training for tour guides in Uganda
Uganda is working hard to professionalise and add value to the guides. This has been done with recent national guides examinations that were held. USAGA has scheduled another skills training for the tourist driver guides. It will take place from May 1st to 20th at Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Requirements: Valid Driving Permit. Certificate of Senior 4 and above. Jungle shoes, gum boots for field training. Umbrella, or rain jacket, plate, spoon and fork, cup, personal toilet bag,
Registration is at the office of the Uganda Safari Guides Association – USAGA. Capital Shoppers Nakawa.
Members of USAGA, AUTO, TUGATA, UHOA, and UCOTA are given a priority.
The Course includes studying about. Introduction to Nature Guiding, Advanced motoring techniques, Animal behaviour, First Aid, Highway code, Driving through a National Park – Game drive etiquette, Planning a game drive, customer care, tour guiding- driver guide and tourist relationship, Roles of Community liaison. Nature conservation. Tourism Law.
The Fees have been reduced with support from UNDP. Non Members will pay UGX300,000 while members will only pay UGX250,000.
The fees include all meals, accommodation, lectures, certificates, field transport, etc. Excluded are transport to and fro. Medical care, insurance, and any other things of the personal nature.
